This series, Girls FC is partly autobiographical. When I was 7 all I wanted to do was play football. At my daughters school I heard about a girl who wanted to play football, but the after school club was full. Hearing about this girl and her passion to just play football reminded me of me. In my spare time, I myself still play football and am a FA Coach … so I found myself setting up a football club for the girls at my daughters school. I try to coach them when I can which is not often enough, when I say coach, I mean just put the logistics in place to just let them play…but their spirit and their passion, their grit and their dreams are a reflection of every kid who just dreams their dreams of scoring goals, saving goals and just playing the game they love.
I recently asked a fellow photographer what she thought about this series, she said she thought it was interesting due to my backstory as a photographer, footballer, mother and coach and that it felt relevant bearing in mind the ‘pinkification’ and the sexualisation of childhood. Thanks @Teechandler1 and I like your made up word of ‘pinkification.’ It made sense to me.
